more events on the horizon....

Just talked with ladies from Providence Roller Derby and it looks like they'll be treating us to some kind of event for the festival. Will post more information as it becomes available.

Check out the website - many events now have their posters linked on the events page so that you can get a bit more information about each event. Please Twitter and Facebook about this, and spread the word!

I'm going to be over at the Providence Phoenix next week to work with Dayna on our four page pull out section in early March. LOTS of information about the festival and you'll be able to take that section out of the paper and carry it around with you...and share with everyone! That way you won't have to miss any of the events!

Things are changing every day so stay tuned for more info....

RED TENT has a new sponsor

I am extremely proud to announce that Rhode Island Rental has signed on as a sponsor for our Red Tent event on Sunday, March 14th. They have agreed to donate all the "fixings" to create the tent inside the Providence Renaissance hotel - yay!

I'm including some photos of last year's process to make the actual tent (which happened between 5PM and 3AM the night before the event!). Many thanks to Jae Wylie Willard our designer, and James Evrard from KITE Architects for their endless hours to create this beautiful marvel.

The 2010 tent will be furnished by PanZhai Chinese antiques, Design Within Reach, Rustigian Rugs and many other local vendors. Can't wait to see how it all turns out.

Remember, tickets will be available at the door for $10.00 on the day of the event - and it will be open from 9:00AM till 5:00PM. Sorry guys, this is for women only! For more information check it out on our website on the EVENTS page.

One more event added....

Yeah - the folks from RI NOW (national organization for women) will be hosting an open mic night called....drumroll please....
"I'll Show You Mine...If You Show Me Yours" - pretty cute, eh?

Wednesday, March 11th at 7:00PM - place to be announced soon.

This will be their second year hosting this event for our festival - last year's was a great success. Everyone is invited to tell their stories of how they first learned about sex....fun, yes?

We're currently working on getting ads into the Providence Monthly magazine and the Providence Phoenix (one of our major sponsors!). We're also going to have a four page full color pull out section in the Phoenix the week before the festival, so be on the lookout for it!

Word's starting to get out and about...getting lots of inquiries about events, so stay tuned for more information...there'll be something for everyone!

We need VOLUNTEERS!!!!!

As I'm sure everyone can imagine, putting together a festival of this magnitude takes a village....and it most certainly wouldn't happen without a large group of volunteers. Each event during the festival will be raising money for a different organization that is working to end violence against women and girls, so the goal is to keep the overhead costs as low as possible. Makes sense, right?

With the generosity of our beautiful venues, and the time and talent of our committee members (we call ourselves the RI Pussy Posse!) most of the work is done, but on the actual day of each event, it's the volunteers who make it happen.

What do volunteers do? Well, pretty much anything you can think of! From selling tickets at the door, to handing out programs and seating people, to applying makeup or helping backstage - there's certainly something for everyone!

So, do you have some time and energy that you'd like to donate to our festival? If so, please email us
at nrafi@hotmail.com and put VOLUNTEER in the subject line. Let us know what dates you're available (the festival runs from March 5 - 14, with most events in the evenings) and what it is you'd like to do.

And please feel free to pass this information along to whomever you think would be interested. The more the merrier!

We're gearing up for the 2010 RI festival!

OK....we are officially in full swing, getting ready for our third annual V-Day festival here in Rhode Island. Can you believe it's been three years already??? Our lineup for the festival is really starting to take place...You can check it all out at our website here.

We've just held our first rehearsals for the productions of "The VAGINA Monologues" this year. First production will be on Saturday, March 6th at 1:00PM at the Jane Pickens Theater in beautiful downtown Newport, RI. Second production will be on Saturday, March 13th at 1:00PM at the Providence Renaissance hotel, and will include a dessert buffet with seating at tables of 10. Both events will be funny, poignant, insightful and heartfelt. We're looking forward to sharing more information with everyone about this year's spotlight campaign - the women and girls of the Congo.

We're also in the throes of coordinating all of the vendors and volunteers for our
RED TENT event on March 14th. This is going to be a day where women gather to be pampered in a safe and loving environment. $10 admission at the door, and you'll be able to enjoy things like hair styling, makeup application, facials, manicures, chair massages, belly dancing lessons, yoga classes, kickboxing instruction, henna tattooing, health screenings and information, an international marketplace and of course, the Red Tent. We'll have 45 minute facilitated story telling sessions for women inside the tent in a safe and relaxed environment. It's going to be a spectacular day, so mark it on your calendars and save the date!

A
great excuse to gather the women in your life and celebrate being female - sorry guys, women only! Tickets will be available at the door only. Event runs from 9:00AM - 5:00PM and is the last event of our festival. Well, that's it for now. I'll be updating this often so come back and check it all out.

More events being added each day, and I'll give you an update on each one as we get closer to the opening date. C'mon out and show your support to ending violence against women and girls in Rhode Island. It's fun, and all for a good cause!
